Ramé 1950s Rare Modernist Mid Century Bold Beautiful Clamper Hinge Cuff Swirl Bracelet
This bold and beautiful modernist gold tone swirl cuff bracelet from the l950s has the marker’s mark “Ramé” in script on the inside of back hinge area. It is rare for two reasons. First, the company made almost exclusively copper jewelry, And secondly, you do not find too many mid century Ramé pieces, especially in very good condition since the company, located in Provident, RI operated for less than a decade.
According to authors Burkholz and Kaplan in their book, Copper Art Jewelry, Ramé styles were “remarkably similar to those of Renoir of California.” They go on to note, “Ramé produced some original work of good quality before the firm was closed by Renoir’s enforcement of copyright laws.”
Today, Ramé jewelry is becoming quite collectible. This swirl style, sleek designed mid century modern clamper hinged bracelet is an elegant gold tone, perhaps a plate over copper, since Ramé specialized in copper jewelry. While it has substantial weight to it, it is quite comfortable to wear.
The spring hinge opens easily to accommodate a variety of wrist sizes, although the inside circumference when closed is approximately 6” ;opens nicely to 7”, and on a bracelet sizer, it is 6.75" The back of the bracelet measures 7/8 in width; the front 2 ¼”.
With nearly 60 years of existence, it has been well cared for, and is in very good vintage condition, but does show some light scratches to the metal; the hinge works well and as designed. The pictures offer greater perspective on the modernist style and condition of this wonderful vintage cuff bracelet. (NOTE: I have a red camera and on some pictures you can see its shadow or a reddish hue; not metal discoloration).
