This adorable little boy mouse on toboggan is part of a series of five holiday mice pins from the mid l970s. I spied him while vintage shopping after a business trip in Spokane, Washington. The maker’s mark © B. J. is on the back and from the Beatrix Jewelry Company which closed in l983. Since the B.J. mark was used after 1975, it dates the pin to l975-l983 period.
This pin, along with the other four active holiday mice, is featured on page 138 of Mary Morrison’s book, Christmas Jewelry, 3rd Edition. At the time of publication in 2009, the value range was to $30.
This festive little mouse is decked out in red and green and gleefully riding a toboggan with one hand. Set in a pale gold tone metal, overall, the pin is in good vintage condition, showing average wear for its 40 years of existence, including wear to the enamel (see pictures). Personally, I think that makes him even cuter. The pin measures 1.75” long and 1.25” tall.
This is a wonderful holiday brooch for any collector or Christmas lover. The pictures offer greater perspective on the whimsical charm and vintage condition of this very cute holiday mouse.
